A church for all ages

Glengate Alliance Church is excited to welcome the Niagara Football Academy to its 10 acre campus at 6009 Valley Way in Niagara Falls for the next three years.

Glengate - who bought the old St. Mike's High School in 2007 and recently added 34 affordable housing units for Seniors - has just concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with the Niagara Football Academy Inc. and Valley Way Non-Profit Housing Corp. to rent them classroom and office space as well as the football field for NFA's use as of May 1st 2012. Glengate's 45 plot community garden was recently moved by a combined workforce of churchgoers, football players, gardeners and community members to get the field ready for NFA's occupancy this summer.

NFA will rent the old sales office and a large storage room by the old day care exclusively and then will share classroom time in Rooms 115, the Board Room, 119 and 121. They will also rent the Oasis during the hours of 9am to 3pm as a homework room. They will also be renting and using the cafeteria each day for lunch and the cafeteria-kitchen twice a week for meal prep. Any schedule conflicts with existing GAC ministries will necessitate NFA finding alternate locations in the building to meet.

NFA is a private, Canadian, football-focused high school dedicated to helping elite athletes achieve academic and athletic success. Founded by Patricia Levasseur of Crystal Beach and Head Coach Geoff McArthur of Berkeley California, NFA will field a team of Canadian players that will play a 9 game non-conference schedule against American high schools in the top 2% of nationally ranked programs. Playing such a tough schedule in the United States, NFA wants to help their athletes secure scholarship opportunities at both American and Canadian universities.

In order to maintain high academic standards, NFA has contracted with Lezlie Murch and her Niagara Academy of Tennis to provide the academic program at Glengate for the coming 2012-2013 year. NAT teachers will come to Glengate to teach NFA players each day during the academic year. The Niagara Academy of Tennis has a 15 year record of offering elite level Tennis and Golf athletes the academic preparation required to qualify for and enroll in universities in both Canada and the United States. The Niagara Academy of Tennis has a 100% success rate in helping their graduates receive athletic scholarships in university.

In addition to the physical and academic training Glengate will be offering a voluntary chapelservice to the NFA players and coaches to also help the young men train themselves spiritually as Paul enjoins us in 1 Timothy 4:8 "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

With the completion of the Seniors residences last year and now with the addition of 40-50 hard working young men dedicated to their sport and each other, we are very excited about the community-feel our vision is creating here in Niagara Falls." said Rev. Jacob Birch, Glengate's Senior Pastor.

NFA's training camp begins at Glengate on August 1st 2012. Their first game is in Plymouth Michigan August 23rd.

Kid’s in Crisis in Guinea

A Message from Lizette

Dear friends and prayer partners,

    I have so enjoyed meeting so many of you while I am on HA. I am so thankful for your prayers and support.

    It has been good to also keep in touch with Lazare and Faith in Guinea as they work passionately to help kids in crisis in Guinea. But the work is exhausting. Since before I even left and in the last 4 months, the KIC centre has faced many crises. We faced losing a few precious lives, Lazare and Faith are constantly dealing with children who are sick, attrition of workers, petty theft, dealing with an 11 yr-old runaway from her family and her spiritual deliverance from demons, a 16 yr-old in bondage to prostitution, etc.

    They are exhausted. They are praying a lot, but have had no rest in months. And now a new crisis has emerged that is threatening everything and that involves Ansou, Lazare's 20 yr-old son. Please pray for Lazare and Faith. Please pray for wisdom and also strength to act as it may be necessary to put Ansou out of their home. He has become very rebellious, arrogant and extremely rude to Faith.

    From a distance I can see the enemy's hand in all of this. He is bombarding Lazare and Faith because he knows that the work at the centre cannot continue without both of them. When I take my eyes off the crises and look at the victories, I am overwhelmed and encouraged:

• our HIV+ kids are strong and healthy
• our 6 teens have accepted the Lord, 5 of whom are Muslims
• two babies have been adopted by European couples

    The Lord is doing and will do mighty things through the Kids in Crisis ministry. Please be in prayer with us for this. We can go forward only with your support.
